Zainab A. Alwan earned a Bachelor's degree in Religion, with a minor in Biology, from the University of Rochester in 2008. She received her Juris Doctor degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 2011.
After graduating law school, Zainab joined Socheat Chea, P.C. and worked with our firm as an Associate Attorney. She then became the Lead Asylum Attorney for the Georgia Asylum & Immigration Network (GAIN), a nonprofit located in Atlanta, GA. Zainab also worked as an Associate Attorney with the Solano Law Firm in Birmingham, Alabama.
Zainab then re-joined Socheat Chea, P.C. in 2020 and handles cases in all areas of immigration law including family based petitions, waivers, filings of T, U, and VAWA petitions, removal/deportation defense, and asylum. She has served as the GA/AL AILA liaison to the American Immgration Council and chaired the GA/AL AILA-USCIS Montgomery Field Office committee.
Zainab is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Georgia and is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
When she is not advocating for immigrant rights, Zainab enjoys exploring the outdoors with her family and working with the interfaith community in the Atlanta area.
